STRONG ALLEY MURAL
In 2021, I was commissioned by Dogwood Arts to paint a mural in Strong Alley ("Mural Alley") in downtown Knoxville, TN. It features me and our oldest son rock climbing. The quote is from Blessed (Soon-to-be-Saint) Pier Giorgio Frassati, and translates as "To the heights!" While Frassati was referring to Heaven, the phrase can also be interpreted more generally in regards to aiming for greater pursuits above oneself. The theme of the mural is of learning and formation: our son climbing in the safety of a local gym, while I am bouldering without a harness outdoors. BARREL CEILING FOYER MURAL This 4-story high mural painted according to my layout and design, though I shared the painting labor of the mural with the artist, Robert Jackson. These photos feature mostly my contributions to the mural. |
FATIMA MURAL
Copyright 2016 Sonia Jackson Summers
Mural completed in Summer 2015 in one week. The mural depicts three scenes from the accounts of the Miracles at Fatima. The first is the Apparition of Mary, appearing to the three children, the second is the Miracle of the "Dancing Sun" before the crowd of people, and the third scene depicts the sun returning to its normal position and size in the sky.
Since completion, the mural has been framed. I plan to eventually include a photo of the finished piece with framing.
Time-lapse video of the process of creating this mural is documented on youtube, and is featured here.
GOLF COURSE MURAL
Though the mural is my design, I shared painting labor of the mural with the artist, Robert Jackson.
